Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series. Before we dive into our discussion about communication, our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you share with us the backstory about what brought you to your specific career path?

Absolutely. I grew up in a small town where community, faith, and family values shaped my leadership journey. From an early age, I faced challenges that would later define my path: I’m dyslexic, have ADHD, and am color-blind. School wasn’t always easy, and learning came with real frustration. But I had teachers who saw my potential and that made all the difference. I knew early on that I wanted to be that kind of educator for others.

At the same time, my childhood was marked by deep personal hardship. My mom battled cancer three times — at age 9, then a different form at 11, and again a recurrence of the original at 15. Watching her fight taught me about resilience and emotional strength. My dad, who didn’t graduate from high school himself, worked hard every day and was determined that I would have access to the education he never did. His work ethic and unwavering support fueled my commitment to grow, achieve, and help others do the same. To support our family, I took on jobs as a teen that placed…
